The enormous destructions caused by Super Typhoon Haiyan (local name Yolanda) in the Visayas region - Philippines in early November 2013 was totally devastating and heartbreaking. The damages brought by Haiyan were exceptionally unbelievable and horrifying - washing away the entire Tacloban City and killing almost 10,000 people. No doubt that this signal number 5 tropical storm is one of the worst disasters ever recorded in our history.
Super typhoon Haiyan's tremendous devastation was definitely a nightmare to all who have suffered and witnessed it. The photos and videos relating to its aftermath were far more scary than what I have imagined. Despite the preparations, this catastrophe left flattened communities in Leyte and Samar with huge amount of debris, countless dead bodies scattered everywhere and nearly 2 million homeless.
The media, on the other hand, contributed a great part in dessiminating news to all the people around the world. Both local & international media strived hard to deliver their reports, especially on how survivors suffered and lost their loved ones. They made me feel that I'm there, experiencing the sorrow and seeing the worst. I could feel the aching hearts and the hopelessness of my fellow Filipino people. How I wish I could comfort their despairing hearts, lend a helping hand and offer a shoulder to cry. To let them know how brave they are and to give them hope that a brighter future still awaits them.
I maybe far from them. I may not be a relative to them or a family, but one thing is for sure, my heart and mind is always with them.
P.S. from a Concerned Citizen
Thank you Mr. Andersson Cooper and the CNN team for your honest report to the public. We need more unbiased reporters like you telling the world what's really happening in the affected areas of Super Typhoon Haiyan. Your reports throughout the world touched everyone's heart and let all concerned people/groups/organizations help the Filipinos who suffered the strongest storm in the history.
Without your reports, there would be no immediate ACTIONS on the distribution of relief goods. You make our government officials ACT rather than just WATCH the Rising Death toll. You keep on reminding the government that survivors are dying waiting for food and medicines. Something must be done NOW!
I am also grateful for those concerned people who watch over the HUGE amount of donations and reveal whoever tries to steal the money. Speak the truth! Those people must be stopped!
